Hull Rupture Humans Guide - Workforce, Biofuel, Defense
Hull Rupture humans guide from official posts: workforce as a resource, meatshield or biofuel choice, converters, Bioreactor auto, and defense roles.
FAQ
Are humans individual colonists with needs?
What happens to humans who cannot operate the ship?
What jobs do humans perform?
How does Bioreactor automation work?
Does Despot’s Chamber use humans?
What role do humans play in Hull Rupture?
Official framing is consistent: you are Despot, and puny humans are a resource to optimize—not a traditional colony sim with individual needs (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026). Visually, humans move through the side-view ship (comparisons to Fallout Shelter or Oxygen Not Included are acknowledged), but they lack distinct appearances or personalities because Despot treats them as irrelevant (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026).
At boarding, survivors immediately go to work. Those who cannot operate the ship receive a democratic choice: become meatshields or biofuel (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026). Launch copy adds that humans are useful either way, whether you keep them alive or not (launch post, Nov 4, 2026).

What does the workforce actually do?
Devlog #1 (May 23, 2026) lists core duties (Steam news):
- Power production and operate modules
- Repair the ship
- Become fuel for the ship’s engine
- Reassign into defensive roles—examples named include Fencers, Punishers, and other specialized units; the exceptionally unqualified can still serve as meatshields
That ties humans to both economy and defense. Tower defense on the hull remains primary; Airlock units catch leaks after turrets (major demo update, Sep 14, 2026)—see turret defense.

Not published: per-role stats, caps, training costs, or exact conversion rates (aside from flavor text about human legs and ship acceleration in a quote—not presented here as a gameplay stat).
How do humans connect to modules and production?
Modules form production chains under wave pressure (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026). You balance energy consumption, fuel, workforce, ship weight, and defenses (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026; Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026).
Positioning matters: some modules buff adjacent structures. Despot’s Chamber improves neighboring module efficiency through “motivational” worship (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026). More humans assigned to Despot’s Chamber increase random free module kit output; kits can be sold in the post-battle shop if unwanted (major demo update, Sep 14, 2026). Module detail: Despot’s Chamber.
Artifacts and modifiers can create adjacency synergies for experienced players (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026). Overview: modifiers overview.

Retail allows placing modules in any empty slot—workforce pathing may still matter for travel time, but demo adjacency unlock for slots is gone (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026). Hull layout: hull construction.
What are converters, Bioreactor automation, and Info Mode?
The major demo update (Sep 14, 2026) documents Converter Automation:
- Described mainly for the Bioreactor.
- Converters get a small Auto button that sends humans to the Bioreactor without an extra command.
- At the time of the post it sends two humans, and when one remains in the queue it sends another.
- Called experimental, with devs watching whether it reduces micromanagement (major demo update).
A later planning note (same Steam news corpus, pre-release roadmap section) says Bioreactor and all other resource converters will have automation so you are not manually assigning every human—treat retail as including automation broadly, with the Sep 14 post as the concrete Bioreactor behavior documented (roadmap-style post in NEWS; major demo update for specifics).
Info Mode shows per-minute income per resource at the current production rate, with hints on some actions about how income might change—it is not a forecast of caps or chained shortages (major demo update). Because production can depend on other changing resources, the devs compare it to a speedometer (major demo update). For economy pillars in runs, see beginner guide.

The Bioreactor module page covers the module named in automation notes; Not published: exact fuel/energy numbers per human processed at retail.
Events, sacrifice options, and workforce counts
Devlog #3 (Aug 14, 2026) notes that event choices can require a minimum workforce—for example, an option to sacrifice 20 humans will not appear if workplace incidents dropped your count below that threshold (Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026). That implies headcount gates narrative options but does not publish a global human cap formula.
Demo vs retail reminders
Demo progress does not carry over except tutorial completion and Trade Mode unlock; artifacts re-unlock in retail (Pre-launch post).
What is confirmed vs not published?

|---|---|
| Meatshield or biofuel for non-operators | Confirmed (Pre-launch post) |
| Workforce duties (production, repair, fuel, defense roles) | Confirmed (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026) |
| Despot’s Chamber scales kit output with workers | Confirmed (demo update) |
| Bioreactor Auto: 2-at-a-time queue behavior | Confirmed (demo update; experimental) |
| Human population cap, birth rates, Reproducer numbers | Not published in sources used |
| Exact biofuel/energy per human | Not published |
