FAQ

Is there an official Hull Rupture best build?
No. Devlogs say runs are shaped by layout, debuffs, artifacts, modifiers, and what the shop and map offer—there is always a path from available tools, but no single prescribed composition (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026; Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026).
Should turrets or Airlock units carry your defense?
The major demo update states tower defense should be the main focus; Airlock units are the last line. The Cheat Code artifact was nerfed to reduce over-reliance on unit-based defense (Sep 14, 2026 demo update).
How do modifiers and artifacts synergize officially?
Modifiers install on modules and can change entire runs; artifacts and adjacency can buff neighbors—example: Reproducer with Eyes lets Beam turrets apply Fragility (Sep 14, 2026 demo update). Shop and event modifier pools differ (Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026).
Can community “meta” posts define retail best builds?
Only as Community-reported ideas. We include one fetched Steam thread below; demo balance and Nov 2 retail changes may invalidate specific comps—verify yourself.
Does ship layout count as part of a build?
Yes. Devlog #2 (Jun 18, 2026) and Devlog #4 (Oct 22, 2026) tie hull shape to firing lanes, choke points, and module kit placement; Hull Construction offers 15 block shapes in randomized order (Devlog #4, Oct 22, 2026).

What do the developers say a “build” is made of?

Konfa frame a defensive build as several interacting layers—not a single loadout code (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026):

  1. Ship shape and weapon mechanics—long straight hull sections favor long-range weapons shooting through multiple enemies; twisting tunnels favor short-range weapons and ricocheting projectiles (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026).
  2. Weapon debuffs—slowing, damage amplification, poison, and similar effects; you likely cannot stack every debuff, and raw damage alone is intended to be difficult (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026).
  3. Artifacts and modifiers on defenses—you might lean economy artifacts and expensive turrets, or artifacts that supercharge cheap turrets; bad luck alone should not doom a run if you adapt (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026).

Between waves, themed post-battle shop crates (Defense, Humans, Rare, etc.) push you toward a strategy while modules can drop with modifiers pre-installed (Sep 14, 2026 major demo update; Pre-launch post confirms retail launch feature set at a high level, Nov 2, 2026). Route planning for modifiers is covered in galaxy routes and modifiers overview.

Combat inside a module room shows damage numbers above green and yellow aliens.

Production and defense share resources: turret recipes consume materials, and stronger defenses need more numerous and rare inputs (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026). You either buy gear that matches resources you already produce, or expand production to unlock defenses that fit your plan (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026). See humans and staffing for workforce tradeoffs and Despot’s Chamber for free kit generation scaling with humans assigned there (Sep 14, 2026 demo update).

What official synergies should you plan around?

These are design intent statements, not guaranteed drop tables:

Synergy Official statement Source
Reproducer + Eyes modifier All Beam turrets can apply Fragility debuff Sep 14, 2026 demo update
Adjacent modules Some modules buff neighbors; Despot’s Chamber boosts neighbors via crew “motivation” Devlog #1 (May 23, 2026); Sep 14, 2026 demo update
Modifier sources Shop pool ≠ event pool for most modifiers Devlog #3 (Aug 14, 2026)
Hull layout + artifacts Devlog #4 (Oct 22, 2026) notes layouts with adjacent modules improve artifact adjacency mechanics Devlog #4, Oct 22, 2026
Tower focus Cheat Code artifact nerfed; turrets first, Airlock units last Sep 14, 2026 demo update

Retail-only change: modules may be placed in any empty module slot, not only next to a finished module as in the demo (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026). That can change how quickly you spin up production chains or slot-specific modifiers compared with demo-era guides.

Moving turrets is free but slow, with downtime after a move—mainly to reposition weak turrets, not to chase bosses around the hull (Sep 14, 2026 demo update). Modules could not be moved at that demo milestone; whether retail added module moves is Not published in the Nov 2 pre-launch diff list—confirm in-game.

A top-down ship view shows engines on the left, many module rooms, wave UI, and turrets along the hull.

For wave-by-wave defense placement, use turret defense. For block-level routing, use hull construction. For evidence-graded strong/weak options (not S-tier guesses), see tier list priorities.

What build directions do devlogs imply (without naming a winner)?

Economy-first, defense-second (usually): Devlog #1 argues the “optimal” approach is often minimum survival investment with maximum growth—until aliens breach the hull and the definition of “minimum” becomes emotional (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026). That is a philosophy, not wave-number prescriptions.

Map-aware builds: Devlog #3 pushes routing toward modifiers and resources your run lacks (Adamantium for turrets, trading Fuel for Minerals, etc.). Builds emerge from galaxy choices plus shop RNG, with exploration as compensation for unlucky rerolls (Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026).

Mass vs speed ship identity: one starting ship favors low mass to visit more stars; others may accept slower travel for heavier industry (Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026). Details for named hulls belong on Izumo and related ship pages when sourced.

Mode-specific spins: six modes and four difficulties exist at retail (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026). Cursed Mode pays for purchases with humans instead of tokens (Steam news after Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026)—a different build constraint than Classic. See modes and difficulty.

Community-reported late-game ideas (demo-era thread)

The following is not official and comes from a Steam General Discussions thread fetched Nov 5, 2026. Posts date to June–July 2025 during demo/endless experimentation—retail balance, Endless separation, and Cheat Code nerfs may differ.

What we cannot verify yet

  • Single best composition for Classic Mode wave 20 at retail—Not published; no official tier list.
  • Exact artifact and modifier drop rates, shop crate contents, and full module list—Not published in announcements.
  • Whether demo “Head” artifact behavior or pirate event gating unchanged at retail—Not confirmed here; only community reports plus partial official event gating examples in Devlog #3 (ship-state requirements).
  • Module moving at retail—Not listed in Nov 2 demo→retail bullet list; turret moving was demo-confirmed (Sep 14, 2026 update).
  • Endless Mode meta after separation from Classic—Devlog #3 and demo posts promise rework; community wave 35+ stories may not apply to Classic (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026).
